Rajyashree Ramesh

Dancer, choreographer, master teacher and Certified Movement Analyst (CLMA) trained in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and classical Carnatic vocal. Groomed for stage since early childhood and acclaimed by press and public for grace, precision and expression, Rajyashree has in her dance career spanning over four decades presented several solo performances, workshops, radio/TV and newspaper interviews worldwide. Her style of performing and teaching, which she pursues with deep insight and sensitivity, has been nurtured by several master teachers in Bangalore and Chennai, guided by scholars, influenced by a 30-year practice of Yoga and enriched through various movement studies in the West which include courses in Breathing Therapy (Berlin), a certification in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis (USA) and an ongoing academic pursuit. She holds a Bachelors degree in science from Bangalore University, and a Masters degree in Sociocultural Studies from the Europa University Viadrina, Germany.

Performer and Choreographer:
Rajyashree's dance and choreographic signature is unique in its multidimensional approach, enhanced by her association with artists of various disciplines and interaction with several cultures. Recipient of several grants for her innovative choreographic ideas, her stage productions and commissioned work range from traditional to multinational, multidisciplinary and cross-cultural work with international artists, world dance forms and movement disciplines. She founded the Dance Ensemble Rasika in 1995 and the Rasika Dance Theatre International to promote cross-cultural artistic work.

Teacher and Researcher:
Rajyashree's teaching career spans over three decades and includes an in-depth dance training for professional dancers as much as community work in outreach programmes. Supported by academic research, her method of imparting traditional intensive dance technique training is grounded on a modern movement analytic approach.The many dancers of European and Indian origin she has groomed at her Academy have been claiming a place for themselves in the dance world or are successfully incorporating the same into their respective professions. Her courses and workshops with various target groups are equally successful with school children and adults. As a movement researcher she has lectures, lecture-performances and workshops at international conferences and cultural/educational institutions worldwide and publications in German and English to her credit. She has also held teaching assignments at community colleges and Die Etage State School for Acting, Mime and Dance in Berlin for several years and is a regular guest lecturer at the Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Courses in Europe.
