‚Rasika’ Dance Ensemble was initially founded in 1996 with the aim to create performance opportunities for the emerging dancers in Berlin with a completed training in Bharatanatyam, who in turn would create the essential ‘Rasikas’ or Connoisseurs, the audience for dance, through innovative choreographic works. This unit has performed extensively in festivals and galas in India and Germany with dancers. Some of them have 10 years of stage experience in the meantime. They have participated in multinational multidisciplinary choreographic works, interacting with international artists. Emphasising its cross-cultural performance work, the unit has grown into the Rasika Dance Theatre International, to include artists of various genres and countries, working constantly on new ideas and presentation techniques. A series of new productions are planned starting in May 2007.
